News broke on Deadline.com this afternoon that playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has been hired to rewrite the much maligned script for Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark. The New York Times followed up on the story, offering these tantalizing facts:
- No agreement has been formalized, but Aguirre-Sacasa has expressed interest in joining the production.
- Mr. Aguirre-Sacasa most recently worked on the script for the Dallas Theater Center’s recent revival of It’s a Bird … It’s a Plane … It’s Superman.
- The Creator (Taymor) and co-writer Glen Berger are already at work on editing the book’s plot.
- Bono and The Edge are writing new music (!)
This raises one big question - how can a March 15 opening date be possible with such a massive overhaul in the works? Will Spider-Man‘s opening be delayed once again? Stay tuned to TurnOffTheBlog.com for continued coverage!

this could actually be one of the most interesting musicals of all time. it’s never going to be finished. it’s very synecdoche, new york. i’m totally into this.
i guess i’ll go see it again in the summer and then maybe once more a few years later, when it has grown into a show about what would happen if barack and hillary had children, the musical.
love the “synecdoche, new york” reference. yeah, it is kinda like that
